The 2007 MIX is Underway!
Tuesday morning hundreds of adventure racers embarked on one of the biggest expedition races in the country, the Michigan Expedition (MIX) - a 300-mile, 100-hour race in and around Michigan's upper peninsula.
This adventure race (AR) is hosted by Infiterra Sports, who also organized my first ever AR, the 2005 Spring Fury. As the sport of AR grew wildly in the past decade or so the hotbed of AR was concentrated on the west coast and in the southeast part of the country. Thanks to Infiterra, Michigan now boasts one of the country's premier races and we have some pretty good teams, too.
A team called Absolute Endo won the inaugural 2005 race (called the Michigan Coast to Coast), but that was no surprise - Absolute Endo has been dominating the Michigan AR scene for the past few years. While they defeated a couple national-caliber teams in the process, fans were quick to point out that 1) they were racing on their home turf, and 2) more than half of the top 10 teams in that race were from Michigan, insinuating that the field wasn't very strong.
The 2006 Coast to Coast expedition race drew several top-notch teams from around the country. A powerhouse west coast team, Sole / Dart-nuun, won the race over EMS (who were also second in 2005) while Absolute Endo proved their mettle with a 4th place showing.
You can follow the 2007 MIX live via Checkpoint Tracker, a service of the AR news website Checkpoint Zero. Lots of strong teams are here and once again it's shaping up as a two-horse race between Absolute Endo and EMS. Check it out! Photos from last year's event (like the one below) can be found at Infiterra's 2006 C2C photo gallery.

I'm surprised you and Amanda aren't out there with a dog adventure team!!!
Who do you think will win? And what does absoloute endo stand for? I keep thinking endoscopy, but I'm sure thts not it.
I think "endo" stands for "end over end", a type of crash in mountain biking lingo.
