Race Report - Riverbank Run 5K

Comments

Wow, nice race report! I can't believe people are so selfish that they start where they shouldn't just because of their ego.

Do you ever run a "time trial" on your own to see how fast you can go without the other runners interfering?
It's amazing how many people run in these events. Even the Edinburgh marathon here only gets about 8000 runners.

There was a discussion on a running forum I visit recently that if you're not puking your guts up at the end of a 5/10k (or at least feeling queasy) then you've not run hard enough. I don't know if that's true really, but I have some sympathy with the vomiters of your tale :D

The other thing is that UK athletics is about to ban the use of audio devices in races. Don't know how that will affect participation, but I suspect it is a safety issue - "wrangling their earphone cords"

Great race report as always Havy, find a quiet 5k and I'm sure you'll be giving that high school PR a run for its money.

Nice Job.

Crowded races always make for interesting outcomes. I like the idea of volunteering as well...but then I wouldn't get to run!!

Thanks for the race report — another great one. It was a near-perfect day for running yesterday here in the general Lake Michigan vicinity, so I'm glad you had an event teed up. I got a good group run in but a MUCH more leisurely pace. 21:26 is two seconds faster than my last 5K, so I know +/- 2 seconds precisely how you feel! Again, well done.

Werewolf — the personal audio ban in the UK sounds like a bummer to me. I completely understand the rationale but since I think I'm pretty good at retaining my awareness and I do like to run with music, especially in short distance events, I'd miss not having my Shuffle at hand.
A couple years ago I did a time trial, but it's hard for me to get as motivated if it's not a race. Doesn't really make sense, but there's something exciting about trying to be faster than others even though my only goal is to beat a certain time.
Andrew, nice report! You had me wanting to scroll to the bottom to read your time but your description was so vivid, that I could not. I really do think that if you weren't dealing with traffic that you would have made your goal.

When do you race next?
Thanks! No firm plans for my next race... There's a 4-mile fun run with dogs that I want to do, but I'll have to think about my next 5K.
